Wednesday Woollens: the Lyra Hat

I mentioned in an earlier post that The Golden Compass is a treasure-trove of lovely costume pieces. It is particularly rich in knitted garments. Probably the most well-known of these is the “Lyra hat”:

There are many knitters / crocheters who have copied this hat, which you can easily find on etsy.com by searching for “Lyra hat” or “Golden Compass hat”. (A search for “pixie hat” will reveal even more.) Here are a couple of examples, one for a pattern and one for a ready-made item:

I have my own Lyra hat, and can attest to the fact that it is very warm in winter, and also rather fetching in a quaint, bonnet-like way!

  1. I adore this website! It’s about time someone did something like this! I just love historical costumes in movies and on stage!
