Tuesday Tresses: Éowyn

“Very fair was her face, and her long hair was like a river of gold.”

– JRR Tolkien, The Two Towers

Given that Tolkien was a professor of Old English, it is not surprising that some of his characters (the Rohirrim) should be based on Anglo-Saxons. The Riders of Rohan are a northern people, with fair coloring and golden hair. Éowyn’s long blonde locks in the LOTR films very much evoke the “river of gold” mentioned in the book.
