You know how it is when you’re re-watching a movie you’ve already seen, and you suddenly hit the pause button and exclaim, “Why didn’t I see THAT before?” Well, when you’re a costume-phile like me, it tends to be sparked by a clothing ensemble you hadn’t previously zoomed in on.
So for today, a wee style “snapshot”, like those candid photos they used to take of people walking down the street during the 40s & 50s. This is Nymphadora (I know, she hates that name!) Tonks in Harry Potter: The Order of the Phoenix….
You see what I mean? Fantastic, no? I mean, what’s not to like here: we’ve got a grey ballerina mini-skirt with a bit of a white petticoat edging, black military-esque jacket with epaulettes, a menswear (?) vest, a pop of red from the shirt underneath, and a choker with bells on, as far as I can tell…. Oh, and violet hair! (Why didn’t she have colourful hair in the other films? Pout.)
Actually, Tonks exhibits a rather fabulous fashion sense throughout HP5 (but I will exempt the inexplicable mullet in #6).… Her style is a mixture of goth + grunge + waif, topped off with realistically chipped nail polish & a winningly cheeky attitude:
