About

I have had a *grand passion* for costumes ever since I can remember…. My early years were spent in my parents’ sloping-roofed attic, dressing up in innumerable varieties of outlandish garb to inhabit roles running the gamut from Belle Epoque ladies to Anglo-Saxon warriors.

I am also a longstanding film fanatic, and much of my teens was occupied (that is, when not continuing to play dress-up in the attic, performing in school plays, or randomly parading around town en costume with my equally eccentric gang of chums) with watching black-&-white ’40s swashbucklers, Merchant Ivory historical dramas, and pretty much anything in the fantasy realm.

There are some truly exquisite film costumes out there, so I eventually decided that there needed to be a blog dedicated exclusively to them: the glossiest, most over-the-top costumes, the everyday-wearable “movie clothing”, and everything in between!

In creating posts, I will sometimes revert to the format I initially started out with:

****

Menswear Mondays ~ because guys get to wear some impressive costumes too, believe it or not!

Tuesday Tresses ~ okay, hair isn’t really a costume item per se….

Wednesday Woollens ~ it’s all about knitting – and crochet! (“And a fabulous game it is, too!” as Bofur says)

Thursday This-&-Thats ~ otherwise known as “accessories”, but with some other miscellaneous objets de costume thrown in for good measure

Footwear Fridays ~ speaks for itself

Sartorial Saturdays ~ after one of my favourite quotes from Chariots of Fire: “your sartorial splendour”

Moment-in-the-Sun-days ~ for those jaw-dropping OOAK costumes that just leap off the screen and make the entire flick memorable!

****

But most of the time these days I do special features, one-offs, tributes, etc….ย It’s all at my whim!

Hoping this blog finds its way onto the screens of those who adore cinematic couture as much as I do,

~ Costume Clara ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. I would be remiss if I didn’t pay tribute to a wonderful online costume resource, and one which I have visited countless times to look for movie costume images:

Here’s the movie costume page with an alphabetical listing:

And here is a list of other costume reference sites I’ve been privileged to consult:

  1. Hi Linnet,
This is so kind of you – many many thanks!!!!
I’ve just acquired a new puppy (wonderful!), and then promptly had my ongoing back problem flare up (awful!), so have been away from the computer for a few days, and now attempting to catch up from an uncomfortable supine position, with puppy napping beside me (at least that part of the scenario is pleasant!). So it sure was a welcome treat to log in and find your nomination!
My warmest thanks again, & now I’ll try to figure out the ins and outs of passing on this honour to other great blogs! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Hi,
I have been really inspired by your blog! i have recently gained a love for the many different costume designs out there and just wanted to say keep it up. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Oh, thank you so much!! I’m very glad you’re enjoying my little costume corner.
I had actually let this blog “retire” for a while, and only check it once in a while, but I’m thinking of perhaps taking it up againโ€ฆ. We’ll see!
Thanks again for taking the time to comment! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I am so happy I found your blog on wordpress. I also adore costumes and am so glad to be able to view such beautiful selections. Have you considered “somewhere in time” – a movie starring Jane Seymour and the late Christopher Reeves. The costumers are so beautiful and the story is a heartbreaker, really lovely. I hope one day to see costumes from that movie here ๐Ÿ™‚ thank you for a wonderful site!

    • Many thanks for your kind comment!!
Unfortunately, I actually no longer keep this blog updated, so it’s basically “dormant” at the moment. (In fact, I rarely check it at all anymore, so I just happened to come across your comment today!)
If/when I ever decide to resume posting on Cinemattire, I will most definitely look into doing a post on the film you mentioned – I haven’t seen it, but it sounds lovely!
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the archived posts here… I had lots of fun putting them together! ๐Ÿ™‚
